THE STORY OF THE EYE by George Bataille
Urizen, 1977 First American edition 120 pp., 5 3/4" X 8 3/4" Hardcover
Very good
Written by Georges Bataille as a psychoanalytical task, The Story of the Eye details the increasingly bizarre sexual perversions of a pair of teenage lovers. It is narrated by the young man looking back on his exploits.
It is hard to overstate the importance and influence of this post-surrealist work on late twentieth century literature and thought.
