The poet Xavier Villaurrutia described Manuel Álverez Bravo as a modern St. Dionysius, a man holding his head in his hands. Álvarez Bravo took photographs constantly in the course of his long life and, always open to experimentation, did not disdain the speed and convenience of Polaroid cameras when they appeared in the 1960. Prefaced with a moving text by the photographer’s widow, this selection of color Polaroids reveals the playful and spontaneous side of the great Mexican master of light and shadow.
