TRANSFORMER: ASPEKT DER TRAVESTIE, by Urs Luthi
Kunstmuseum Luzerne, 1974, First edition, 60 pp., 8 1/2" X 11 1/2", Softcover
Very good
Super rare standalone catalog of Urs Luthi's work from the Transformer show held at the Kunstmuseum in Lucerne in 1974. Luthi’s work comprised a good portion of the show, and this is the scarce separate book with his work only and not the more common catalogue for the show itself.
In Lüthi’s work, the body is disguised, made-up and staged in the poses of young androgynous ephebes, cultivating a kind of sexual ambiguity, and becoming—as it does in Body Art practices—an aesthetic-search instrument. Nevertheless, Lüthi pushes the boundaries of Body Art through his unique way of handling the body as an image, one that “contrasts, trivialises, comments, situates, supports and connects with the self-portrait”.
