BRASSAI: THE SECRET PARIS OF THE 30'S (Inscribed association copy)
Pantheon, 1976, Fiirst American edition, Unpaginated, 8 1/2" X 11", Hardcover
Very good + (Inscribed by Brassai to his photography dealer Lee Witkin)
This volume contains many photographs taken by Brassai which have never had wide circulation before because of their daring nature. His subject is the forbidden Paris of the 1930s, its opium dens, its brothels and prostitutes, where high society mingled with the underworld.
This copy is inscribed by Brassai to pioneering photography dealer Lee Witkin. (Who represented Brassai from the early 1970’s through the 1990’s.)
Lee Witkin was a pioneer in the world of photography and is credited with the launching of photography to public consciousness and collector interest. In 1969 he opened the first commercial gallery of photography and broke ground for the diverse scene that is photography today. His importance in the field cannot be overestimated.
An extremely rare and noteworthy association copy.
